You’ve probably rummaged through the apps on F-Droid. Some types of apps are common, e.g. calendars, music players, etc. Which are the most bizarre, unusual or unexpected apps have you come across?#

Every day I search for new apps, install and test them. In F-Droid there are now apps for all kinds of topics, such as Casio, ExHale, Petals, Inventory. I have not painted these or have not painted them yet.

And when I’m on vacation, I’m also looking for new apps, installing and testing them. Only then I do not paint. I then make a note which I paint.

And then there are period tracker apps. Whenever I see a new one, I paint it. All those that are available in the F-Droid are also available as acrylic paintings.

A survey showed that a pure period tracker exhibition is also desired. Because it’s not just a guys thing. In Berlin (since 2020) Periodical, in Dresden (2022) ORing and in Zwickau (since 2023) drip.

Do you only paint logos if you have used the app yourself?#

No, I also paint acrylic pictures of apps that I don’t use or can’t use. For example, kitshn (for hosting recipes), Grocy (I do not understand this, and is for self-hosting) and OpenHAB (for smart home, I did not, but there is an acrylic painting). I have also painted other acrylic paintings, so no apps, such as stop face recognition, a banner for a couple cooking show, the logo of XR and other things.

On the one hand, there are exclusion criteria, i.e. has someone made a fool of me there (yes, there is also that) or does someone always have the last word. And I don’t paint that.

On the other hand, the criteria that I paint a logo (this is usually true):

If I have the time, how hard it is, I might be able to paint it differently (very rarely), like Morse, for example. I explained in another blog article why I painted it that way.

And is there a connection to it. FitoTrack (hosted on Codeberg) is exhibited in Berlin. Someone forked this for Flathub, I also painted and was on display at the Radebeuler exhibition. Kotatsu was archived within the Radebeuler exhibition. I can’t look into the future. Someone forked this under a different name, Futon. That’s how I have to paint it soon. Because it’s going on with it.

If it’s too complicated and if it looks like this after 2010, I don’t paint it. There are currently about 4k apps in the F-Droid Main repo alone (and there are also many other repos) - I can’t paint all of them.

Logos that I can not reconcile with my conscience, I will not paint, like Petals.

You have a repo at Codeberg with icons. What is it and how to use it?#

This is for my iconpack “Mondstern Acrylic Icons”. There is also a dedicated website for this:

https://acrylicicons.codeberg.page

You have to install the iconpack first. There are 2 possibilities:

  1. F-Droid (Main), you have to wait a bit for the updates and
  2. the own package source for the Iconpack (can be found on the Iconpack website). Advantage: The update will then appear immediately on your F-Droid client and you can install it directly.

You need a launcher with icon support. In the F-Droid there is the KISS launcher (was in the Radebeuler exhibition in 2025) and the Ion Launcher. These two launchers are updated often or relatively often.

But there is also the monocles launcher (last update 2023) and the Einstein Launcher (if you have installed 900 apps, it will invite everyone first and you won’t wait that long).

My recommendation: KISS Launcher. Ion Launcher. Stario.

KISS Launcher: You press on the 3 dots, KISS settings, user interface.

For symbols, you select (in this case) Mondstern Acrylic icons. That’s actually already it.

At the top you can scroll to the installed apps or search for them at the bottom of the “Search for apps” bar.

Ion Launcher: You press on the screen, on Ion Launcher tweaks, icons, iconPacks.

Mondstern Acrylic Icons move up so that it is in front of the Iconpack system. That’s actually already it.

When searching, you will then see my acrylic paintings as app icons.

Stario: You press on the screen, on Start screen settings. For icons, select Mondstern Acrylic Icons.

That’s actually already it.

When searching, you will then see my acrylic paintings as app icons.

Note:

It happens that package names change sometimes more times less. This has nothing to do with me, the icon just doesn’t show it anymore. The programmer of the app then simply changed the package name.

With an iconpack it is always an up-to-date status.
